Skip Dreps has received combat medical badge, an Army Commendation Medal, and several foreign military awards including the French Commando School badge and the NATO Allied Mobile Force (AMF) Lion of Saint Mark’s Medal for his work as a Special Forces medic in the Army. He was discharged form his career in the army due to too many fractures from hard landings resulting in spinal cord injuries.

After his discharge, Skip graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville with an English teaching degree in secondary schools. After five years of teaching, the Paralyzed Veterans of America invited Skip to become a National Service Officer. He was later reassigned to a new Spinal Cord Injury Unit in Seattle. While in Seattle, Skip served as a Senior National Service Officer in the VA’s Regional Office until 1995 and then accepted the position as Northwest Chapter’s Government Relations Director.
