December 1, 2015: Ginger Berninger, Professor, University of Washington: UW Neuroscience

Virginia Wise Berninger (Ph.D., Psychology, Johns Hopkins) taught for 9 years in urban, suburban, and rural schools (general education, special education, and reading services) before becoming a research and licensed clinical psychologist. She has had faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School, Tufts New England Medical School, and the University of Washington. As director of NICHD-funded research 1989-2008 and 2011 to present, she has headed interdisciplinary teams that study typical oral and written language learning and specific learning disabilities in oral and written language learning. Her current interests are interdisciplinary team work in schools to facilitate success for ALL students in cost-effective and compassionate ways.
