Kim’s personal journey has also shaped her resilience and perspective. Her son, Josiah, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy in 2021, leading to a challenging but hopeful path of treatment with the Seattle Children’s Heart Failure Team. After undergoing the placement of a Left Ventricular Assist Device in the summer of 2023, Josiah was officially added to the Transplant List on July 1, 2024. As a family, they are currently raising funds for his heart transplant through the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA), an organization that has been an incredible source of support.
